Wakfu is the cute kind of transmedia synergy

Opportunities to talk about the quirky turn-based MMORPG sandbox Wakfu are rare, so when one chances buy, you gotta grab it, and here it is: Ankama has announced that it’s revamping the game’s island of Kelba to add a new quest line and new dungeons aimed at level 65 adventurers. The first part of the patch went live on March 17th; the second opens on April 2nd.

“Players will go on an investigation to track down the Black Crow, who terrorizes the people of Kelba,” say the devs. “On their way, they’ll come face to face with a new family of monsters: the Raskaws, which will give players a hard time and will compel them to appeal to their sense of strategy and their boldness to defeat them.”

The new content is intended to “bridge” the game to its anime; gamers funded a Kickstarter to dub the show into English last year, and it’s even on Netflix now. Oh, let’s just go ahead and call it… transmedia synergy. But the cute kind.
